Group & Field Trips: Program Choices

Mission: Nutrition
Grades K – 1  
Focus: Health/Exercise, Analysis and Probability

Explore the five food groups to solve the puzzle of the food pyramid!  Students learn the importance of making smart eating and physical activity choices everyday.  Your students will prepare a feast fit for our very own dragon, Dudash through an active and challenging game of shopping and preparing dishes from the five basic food groups using CML’s unique picture recipe book.  Keep in mind that Dudash, because he is soooo BIG, eats a daily requirement in one meal! 

Shrimp, Shrimp Everywhere
Grades K – 2
Focus: History, Math/Measurements and Earth Science

Step into the boots of a Lowcountry Shrimper, cast your net into the CML Ocean and learn all about South Carolina’s shrimping industry.  Your students will learn the importance of sorting the bycatch from the shrimp nets and tossing what the Shrimper does not want to keep back into the water.  They will also learn that shrimp have six stomachs, five pairs of swimming legs and five pairs of walking legs. 
          
H2O is ImPOURtant
Grades K – 5
Focus: Physical Science, Analysis and probability

Everyday is Earth day .Younger students experiment with buoyancy by predicting whether an object will sink or float and classifying those objects by using process, skills and mathematical thinking.  Their ultimate challenge is to make a marble float!  Older Students will learn the importance of water to life on earth and discover how water is used to make electricity? 

Garden Detectives
Grades k – 5
Focus: Earth science, Botany & Entomology

A garden treasure hunt!  Students identify and classify plant and insect life in CML’s all organic Children’s Garden.  Grab your garden hats and hoes Little Chef is in the garden preparing to make a feast for us.  Come find out what she discovers as she picks a variety of leaves for teas, dyes and Butterflies.  What insects do you see munching on our plants or spiders weaving webs?    

Medieval Mysteries
Grades K – 5
Focus: History & Literature

Unravel the secrets of life in medieval times and go back in time to the land of Kings and Queens.  Discover how changes in the environment affected the lives of medieval children, the games the children played and what their amazing life was like living in a castle.  Your students can create a maze of their own or design a stain glass window in this program that touches on the lives of people then and now. 

Fantastic Physics
Grades K – 5
Focus: Physical Science

Meet Sir Isaac Newton and investigate the reality of gravity, acceleration and velocity.  Your students will design, create and discover some basic engineering concepts as they learn Newton three laws of gravity by constructing a crazy contraption.  It is all about cooperation and motivation
 
Science of Art
Grades K – 5
Focus: History, Science & Art 

Explore prehistoric painters to modern day artist and discover new materials for the visual image.  Students will mix different kitchen and art room ingredients to make paint and learn how each invention has different uses through their consistency and structure.  Students will make three traditional paints and experiment on paper with their findings.
