The Children's Museum is open before hours from 10:00am -12:00pm the second and fourth Sundays of every month for children with special needs and their families to visit the Museum for FREE.  Children are able to explore and play in the Museum without the crowds and over-stimulation.  This program is FREE, but registration is required.  Click here to register for the next SuperStars! event!

CML SuperStars! Special Guest

Sunday, August 10
10:15am - 11:00am & 11:15am - 12:00pm

CML is thrilled to partner with ARTformation, an art based community non-profit, on Sunday, June 22, and Sunday, August 10, at SuperStars!  ARTformation provides the opportunity for safe therapeutic environments designed to meet the needs of communities. After evaluating needs of communities, ARTformation will develop and implement goal specific projects, using the creative arts as a method for individual change and personal growth for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. ARTformation will also provide educational opportunities, community needs awareness, and research opportunities.

On Sunday, August 10, ARTformation will host formal group sessions for 6-8 students with Autism in CML's Art Room. These are closed sessions (only registered children and their grown-up will attend). The Art Room will be closed for these sessions.

ARTformation Therapist Biographies:

Charlotte A. Crosland ATR-BC, CACII, LPC/I

Education: Charlotte Crosland graduated from the College of Charleston (Charleston, SC) in 1999 with a BS in Psychology. In 2004, Charlotte graduated from Southwestern College (Santa Fe, NM) with a Master's Degree in Art Therapy. Currently, Charlotte in enrolled in the dissertation stage of Ph.D. program for Counselor Education and Supervision.

Experience:  In New Mexico, Charlotte facilitated open art studio sessions with Native Americans at a residential school. In 2004, Charlotte interned in Queensland, Australia working with Aboriginal children who had experienced sexual assault as well as working with adults and children in the Queensland area who experienced sexual abuse and domestic violence. Since 2004, Charlotte has been working in the Charleston, SC area focusing on addiction recovery with individuals who experience substance and behavioral addictions (gambling, eating and other compulsive disorders). In 2006, Charlotte started Intentions, LLC, a private practice to serve the community through art therapy and counseling. Through this setting, Charlotte focuses on addiction counseling and working with children who are experiencing parental/caregiver separation/divorce. Through private practice setting, the need to extend services and resources to community became more evident, leading Charlotte to found the nonprofit, ARTformation, in 2014. Charlotte also facilitates professional trainings, clinical supervision and consultation.

Certifications: Charlotte is a nationally recognized, Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), Certified Addiction Counselor (CACII), Licensed Counselor Intern (LPC/I)

Sarah Estes Hocutt ATR, CACP

Education:  Sarah Hocutt graduate from College of Charleston with BS in Psychology. Sarah graduated from Florida State University with a Master's Degree in Art Therapy and Education. 

Experience:  Sarah Hocutt has been using art therapy and creative learning techniques to help children, adolescents, and adults in the Charleston area for the past nineteen years. Sarah has specialized in working with children 6 weeks to 6 years, increasing their language, social skills, overall learning, behavior and development, as well as preparing them for elementary school.. Sarah's therapeutic focus with children has been helping children on Autistic Spectrum develop skills and successfully integrate into classroom settings. Sarah also provides support and education for parents and caregivers of children through a variety of topics and resources. Sarah has experience working with adolescents in high risk environments, implementing creative and social techniques to assist adolescents with being empowered and successful through goal setting and implementation. Sarah has experience working with adults and families who have or are experiencing addiction disorders. Sarah has a variety of experiences with ages and particular challenges which can benefit many families. 

Certifications:  Sarah is a nationally registered Art Therapist (ATR)

Charleston Battery Soccer Clinic

Friday, August 15
5:15pm - 6:15pm, Game at 7:30pm

The Charleston Battery is welcoming CML for a summer hoorah on Friday, August 15, for a children's soccer clinic with Charleston's very own Battery soccer players!  Ages 2 - 12 are invited to come out and sharpen your soccer skills with your favorite Battery player!

The clinic begins at 5:15pm and lasts until 6:15pm. Kids are asked to bring their own soccer balls (if possible). Join CML on the sidelines for a fun craft in our party tent, then cheer on the Charleston Battery when the game kicks off at 7:30pm.

The price also includes a ticket to the game, which begins at 7:30pm.

Silhouettes by Clay Rice

CML is thrilled to partner with FAMOUS Charleston silhouette artist, Clay Rice!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 6, as Clay Rice will be visiting CML for his Silhouette Cutting, story telling and sing-a-longs! 

As an award-winning artist, Clay Rice is considered the finest silhouettist in the world. Clay will cut out a silhouette of your child in one minute. He amazes with his speed and accuracy in capturing your child's profile. In addition to his extraordinary silhouette cutting, Clay is also a children's book author and will be reading his book and inviting children to participate in a sing-a-long at the Children's Museum on September 6 at 11:30am.  Click here to learn more about Clay Rice.
