WEEKLY PROGRAMS
CML offers a wide variety of fun and enriching FREE programs throughout each week. We have several regular classes and plenty more that change with the seasons. Look through the lists below to see what's happening! In September, CML celebrates dance with programs sure to inspire intellectual growth, creativity and rhythm.
September Programs
Author of the Day! Come enjoy story time at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry to learn all about some of our favorite authors! Each week we’ll focus on a new author and have an interactive reading of wild and imaginative books! The authors include Mem Fox, Audrey Wood, David Wiesner, Donald Crews, and Margaret Wise Brown! Create art inspired by the stories and then write a story of your own every Wednesday in September at 10:00 a.m. Recommended for all ages.
Rhyme Time! Join us to read and write and take your rhyming skills to a new height! Children will experience poems and songs that demonstrate the fun and easy nature of rhymes! At the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, kids will write their own silly rhymes and in the process expand their vocabulary! Don’t forget your poetic license when you drive on over every Wednesday in September at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Instrument Making! Whether it’s tapping on your lap or shaking pebbles in a jar you can make music with almost anything! Using all the goodies in the art room, rubber bands, cardboard tubes and our abundant creativity, the children will make fun versions of drums, guitars, and maracas! Unleash your inner rock star at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry Wednesdays in September at 3:30 p.m. Recommended for ages 2-5.
Draw to Music –Armstrong Art! Come be inspired by the famous jazz music of Louis Armstrong while creating your very own piece of artwork. The Art Room of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be transformed into a New Orleans fun atmosphere for creating masterpieces! Join us Thursday, September 2nd at 9:30 a.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Shapes Ahoy! Come learn the basics of geometry while creating fantastic geometric abstract art! Every week we will focus on a different shape and see how it shows up in our daily lives! Be there or be square every Thursday in September at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Falling for Leaves! Join us at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry every Thursday in September at 3:30 p.m. for fun fall crafts! Using the vibrant orange, red, and yellow leaves outside, we will create collages, mobiles, rubbings, window hangings and much more to celebrate a beautiful season! Recommended for all ages.
Decoupage Collage! Take crafts to the next level with creative collages from colorful paper, magazine cut-outs, ribbons, leaves and whatever your imagination desires! Bring in something to decorate or create a fresh masterpiece here at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry every Friday in September at 9:30 a.m.! Recommended for ages 3-5.
German Music and Culture With this month having a musical theme we wanted to explore music from all over the world! Bring your open ears and endless curiosity to learn all about the exciting and historical musical styles of Germany! Listen as the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry transforms into a mini-Germany Friday, September 3rd at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
It’s About Time! Be on time to learn about reading time at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry! Kids will practice reading clocks and even learn some history of sun dials and the invention of clocks! Join us every Friday in September at 3:30 p.m. for the time of your life! Recommended for ages 4-6.
Frog & Toad Art! Hop on over to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry for some messy green amphibian crafts with Arnold Lobel’s beloved children’s books! Jump over to the Art Room Saturday, September 4th at 1:30 p.m. for toads of fun! Recommended for all ages.
Changing Seasons! Come join us at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry to learn about the different seasons! We will draw four trees and decorate them with curly ribbons in the seasonal colors! Bring your little artist to learn about weather and color Sunday, September 5th at 2:00 p.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Design Time! Future architects, fashion designers, engineers and inventors unite! Combine your skills of geometry and art to create designs and models for dream tree houses or fantasy ball gowns at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry! Learn about blueprints, sketching and designing your favorite things every Tuesday in September at 9:30 a.m. Recommended for ages 3-5.
African Drumming Transport yourself to West Africa by learning the history and rhythms of the African drums. Explore the history of the drums and the messages they communicate all while tapping along to simple yet powerful traditional rhythms! Bring your beats to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry every Tuesday in September at 11:30 a.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Dot Art! From Australian Aboriginal art to George Seurat, dots have played a big role in the creation of magnificent masterpieces. Using finger prints, beads, or the wrong-end of a paint brush create your own versions of dot art at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry every Tuesday in September at 3:30 p.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Draw to Music – Coltrane Art! Come be inspired by the exciting jazz music of John Coltrane while creating your very own piece of artwork. The Art Room of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be transformed into a relaxing atmosphere for creating masterpieces! Join us Thursday, September 9th at 9:30 a.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Greek Music and Culture With this month having a musical theme we wanted to explore music from all over the world! Bring your open ears and endless curiosity to learn all about the instruments and musical styles of ancient and modern Greece! Listen as the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry transforms into a lush Greek Isle Friday, September 10th at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Curious George Art! After story time with our favorite mischievous monkey we will create fun animal crafts. Draw a picture with you and your pets or create a fantastical new creature that loves adventure just like George! Bring your yellow hat to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry Saturday, September 11th at 1:30 p.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Shadow Art! Join us for fun activities to learn about light and shadows! Kids will make puppets and use flashlights to see play with the shadows they cast on the wall. Play outside and have a friend trace your shadow with chalk and see how your movements and the sun change the shape. Come light up your day at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry for this activity Sunday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m. Recommended for all ages.
Draw to Music – Ella Art! Come be inspired by the soothing jazz singing of Ella Fitzgerald while creating your very own piece of artwork. The Art Room of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be transformed into a relaxing atmosphere for creating masterpieces! Join us Thursday, September 16th at 9:30 a.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Chinese Music and Culture With this month having a musical theme we wanted to explore music from all over the world! Bring your open ears and endless curiosity to learn all about the Far East instruments and musical styles of the China! Listen as the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry transforms into a festive mini-China Friday, September 17th at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Harold and the Purple Crayon Art! Join us for story time where we’ll read Harold and the Purple Crayon and discuss Harold’s amazing imagination! Children will search their imaginations to find images and creatures in large purple shapes and then get their own to arrange into a picture! The more bizarre the better! Stretch your imagination at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry Saturday, September 18th at 1:30 p.m. Recommended for all ages.
Fall Foliage Finger Painting! Join us Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. September 19th to create works of art from materials found in the garden! After collecting leaves the children can paint over the leaves, make stamps with them and learn about the local species of trees around the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry! Recommended for all ages.
Draw to Music –Brubeck Art! Come be inspired by the innovative jazz music of Dave Brubeck while creating your very own piece of artwork. The Art Room of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be transformed into a relaxing atmosphere for creating masterpieces! Join us Thursday, September 23rd at 9:30 a.m. This program is recommended for all ages.
Spanish Music and Culture With this month having a musical theme we wanted to explore music from all over the world! Bring your open ears and endless curiosity to learn all about the funky, dance-provoking music of the Spanish culture! Listen as the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry transforms into one big fiesta Friday, September 24th at 11:30 a.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Mouse Paint Art! Join us at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry where we’ll read Mouse Paint by Ellen Stohl Walsh and then mix and stir and stir and mix just like the mice in the story! Get ready to learn all about the primary and secondary colors while creating mice thumbprints and messy masterpieces Saturday, September 25th at 1:30 p.m.! Recommended for all ages.
Let in the Leaves! Using the diverse and colorful leaves found in the garden, our young artists can make prints and rubbings to celebrate the approach of autumn! Join us at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry Sunday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. to let the leaves in! Recommended for all ages.
