FAM JAM 2015 celebrates the power of PLAY and engages families together!
In 2014, 3,400 children and their grown-ups attended FAM JAM at Marion Square. This year, CML (in partnership with the Charleston Farmers Market) is gearing up for an equally exciting event and is planning an action-packed day of fun and PLAY! From jump castles to a climbing wall to live performances by Electric Company and the Dirty Birds drumming band, there will be something for everyone! In addition, CML collaborates with more than 25 community partners who will participate in the event, providing a host of PLAYful crafts and activities to engage children of all ages. You don't want to miss out on this day of fun!
FAMILIES WHO ATTEND FAM JAM WILL RECEIVE FREE ADMISSION TO THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM FOR A DAY JAM-PACKED WITH FREE PLAY!
Although sometimes dismissed as "just fun," PLAY is fundamental for children to learn about and interact with their world and gain mental, physical and social skills necessary to succeed in their adult lives. As professor Karen Hutchinson of Rowan University says, "PLAY is actually the work of a child in which they are preparing themselves for adult roles and society at large." For a child, PLAY is the vehicle for exploring and learning, developing new skills and connecting with others. Through self-directed PLAY, children can follow their interests, explore the unknown, link outcomes with choices, conquer their fears and make friends. PLAY also has important links to developing key skills that serve as a foundation for lifelong success, including critical thinking, communication, problem solving and collaboration.
