What is a Brown Bag STEM Challenge?
Each Brown Bag includes a STEM-based challenge that encourages children to solve problems. There is no right answer or correct design, it is a fun learning experience that encourages children to think outside of the box. These kits contain recycled goods as well as low-cost everyday materials, helping to bring STEM equity to households where challenges can be built again and again.
Who gets Brown Bag STEM Challenges?
Anyone can! CML endeavors to bring them to schools throughout the Lowcountry. During the 2020-2021 school year, CML pivoted from hosting onsite field trips to providing Brown Bag STEM kits to students at under-resourced schools. We delivered more than 25,000 kits to almost 14,000 young scholars in the Charleston community! CML will continue to provide Brown Bag STEM Challenges to schools and organizations as requested.
What is the goal of Brown Bag STEM Challenges?
Brown Bags are made for young students to engage and collaborate as a class, and then take home to extend their learning. Students practice the STEM cycle of planning, building, testing, and improving to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Interested in helping? We need volunteers to help make the bags and donations to fund them!
